About us

Spin or Flip is a free online tool for fair, random decisions. We believe that removing human bias from everyday choices leads to better outcomes—whether you’re picking a movie, assigning tasks, or running a classroom activity.

Over 2.3 million teachers worldwide use digital decision wheels monthly for classroom management and student engagement activities. Education technology research supports the use of randomizers in instruction. Digital Spinning Wheel as a Pedagogical Tool (IEEE).

Studies show that decision fatigue affects 85% of adults daily—simple tools like coin flips can reduce cognitive load by 43%. Decision fatigue: A conceptual analysis (NCBI); Cognitive load and decision making (RAND).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the spinner truly random?

Yes. Spin or Flip uses the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues) for cryptographically secure, unbiased number generation—the same standard used in security software. The winning option is selected before the wheel starts moving, and every option has a mathematically equal chance of being chosen. Consecutive spins are also guaranteed to never land on the same option twice.

Why doesn’t the pointer always stop in the center of a label?

By design. A real physical wheel never stops exactly at a label’s midpoint—it lands wherever friction happens to stop it. Our algorithm adds a random offset within each segment (up to ±45% from center) so the result looks and feels natural, especially on wheels with only a few large options. The declared winner is always the option whose segment the pointer is inside, regardless of where it lands within that segment.

Can I save my wheel configurations?

Currently, Spin or Flip doesn’t require an account or save settings. Your wheel exists only in your browser session. This ensures privacy—we don’t collect or store any of your data.
